Discover this park
Matheson Hammock opened in the 1930s on land donated by William Matheson, and much of what you walk on was shaped by the Civilian Conservation Corps out of local coral rock. The atoll pool is tidal — it flushes with the bay — so the water changes character through the day.

Park rules to know
- Swim only in the atoll pool area and only when you are comfortable — lifeguard coverage is limited.
- Stay out of the marina and boat channels.
- Leashed pets on paths only, not in the pool.
- Do not feed wildlife, including the birds along the shoreline.
Park rules and safety instructions always take priority over an LMGT quest, challenge, XP, badge, stamp or reward.
About this park
Miami-Dade's oldest county park: a man-made atoll pool that fills and empties with Biscayne Bay, ringed by mangroves and one of the best skyline views in the county.
