Your park quest

5 to tick, plus a bonus

When you get to the park, open your quest and we'll guide you through one step at a time. Do them in any order, across as many visits as you like — anything you tick is saved.

  • Walking

Walk the full boardwalk loop, stopping at every gazebo.

0.75 mile loop · about 35 min · Raised boardwalk, accessible, almost no shade.

  • Adventure

Photograph a nesting bird on one of the islands, without leaning over the rail.

On the loop · about 15 min · Nesting is busiest late winter into spring.

  • Live More

Stand at a gazebo and count how many different bird calls you can hear in two minutes.

At any gazebo · about 10 min · Shaded gazebo seating.

  • Movement

Walk the loop twice at a pace that lifts your breathing.

1.5 miles · about 40 min · Flat boardwalk; go early, it gets hot fast.

  • Together

Pick one bird each and follow it for as long as you can, then swap notes.

On the loop · about 20 min · Fully accessible and easy to do side by side.

  • Bonus · optional

Bonus: photograph an alligator from the boardwalk — from the boardwalk only.

On the loop · about 15 min · Common in the open water either side.

Discover this park

The name means "created waters". Like Green Cay, this is reclaimed water doing two jobs at once, and the nesting islands have made it one of the best-known bird spots in Florida.

Park rules to know

  • Stay on the boardwalk — the water holds alligators.
  • Do not feed wildlife.
  • No pets.
  • Do not use flash photography near nesting birds.

Park rules and safety instructions always take priority over an LMGT quest, challenge, XP, badge, stamp or reward.
